As Williamson County, Texas real estate owners like us know, this is an area often called ‘Wilco.’ With a population of about 422,679, the county has been inhabited by humans for at least 11,200 years. The earliest inhabitants lived here during the Ice Age and there are many sites throughout the county where Archaic Period inhabitants are thought to have lived. The relics found as well as flint tools support this theory. The Round Rock area and Georgetown are two places where sites have been found.

Early residents of Williamson County real estate raised cattle and grew cotton. Between the 1890s and the 1920s this was the top producing area for cotton within the state. Farming and dairy were two of the occupations of rural Williamson County as was ranching in the Hill Country to the west. The area began to grow and become more urbanized although in some parts of the county cotton is still a major crop and cattle ranches are an important business.

Today however, Williamson County’s largest employer is Dell Computer Corporation. The computer giant employs about 16,000 people in this area. Williamsburg County enjoys a significant retail trade. A new IKEA store and the Premium Outlet Mall in Round Rock are easily accessible to most of the homes in Williamson County. The La Frontera mixed-used project located in Round Rock as well as the Rivery and Wolf Ranch are major retailers in Georgetown.

Education is another important factor for residents of Williamson County real estate. Austin Community College provides two-year degrees and training for students who choose to enter the high-tech sector of industry. Nursing and other subjects are taught here allowing students further education in fields that provide lucrative career choices. Texas State University campus is located in Round Rock along with the Round Rock Higher Education Center. The county is served by several school districts including Georgetown ISD, Granger ISD, Hutto ISD, Jarrell ISD, Liberty Hill ISD, Taylor ISD and Thrall ISD. There are several others that serve Williamson as well as other counties.

Williamson County, Texas real estate residents can enjoy a variety of recreational activities from hiking to swimming to sports. The Crystal Falls Golf Course is located here providing plenty of challenges for the avid golfer and they have two full time trainers for beginners or those who want to work on their game. A number of parks with amenities, several of which host seasonal events are also located in Williamson County.
