Georgetown, Texas is located about 30 miles north of Austin. Georgetown is part of Williamson County, and the population at the 2000 census was about 30,000 people. Rarely can you find the conveniences of a city with a small-town feel!
HistoryGeorgetown was founded in 1848. An agrarian community, the city's primary economic stability came from the growth of cotton. The Chisholm Trail is a famous cattle trail that led from Texas to Kansas and Missouri and crossed through the heart of Georgetown. The addition of a railroad and the establishment of Southwestern University in the 1870s solidified the town's permanence in Central Texas.
