Although the city of Austin contains Williamson County, Texas real estate, it is also part of Hays and Travis counties. It is actually the seat of Travis County. In addition, it is the capital of Texas and a cultural and economic center of the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metropolitan area. Originally settled in the 1830s the city was originally named Waterloo. The name Austin was chosen for Stephen F. Austin, who was known as the father of Texas.

The city hosts South by Southwest, one of the largest music festivals in the U.S. the festival is a four-day event with over 2,000 performers and provides the “highest revenue-producing special event for the Austin economy.”
